PLEASURE AND PAIN

Pleasure and pain,
Two sides of a coin;
Brothers in arms,
Members of the same battalion.

Always together; always opposite,
Like yin and yan,
Action and reaction,
Push and pull.

These brothers are joined at the hip—
Siamese twins we have here.
One balances out the other,
Like the forces of a couple.

Pleasure lifts you to heaven,
Pain dunks you in hell.
Pleasure quenches your thirst,
Pain forces sand down your throat.

Pleasure is a life of beauty,
Pain makes you miss the beauty of life.
Pleasure takes you places,
Pain brings you home.

Neither of these are permanent,
They are both ephemeral in nature.
Life won't always be rosy,
Neither will it always be thorny.

So whichever of the brothers
is in your home right now,
Arm yourself with the knowledge
that it's twin has its own stint to fulfill with you.
