As I was preparing for my fourth JAMB, I heard my mum said one night *"ADEOLA, if you fail this year's JAMB I will just take you to Saheed to learn VULCANISER*....
that statement was not funny as I lost apetite immediately. I immediately thought of how I would repair tyre for my colleagues who by then might even be in their 300l in their various universities,
The way she pronounced the thing self made me scary, "FORGANIZA" I ran inside shut the door and said to myself "Adeola Forga" as though those kids learning it are not humans.
That was some years back, and I wouldn't blame my mum, how many of you will stand your Son bringing 197, 185, and even on one occasion 150 all upon 400🙆🏾♂😂🤦🏾♂. Lol.
I read and burnt candles and at the end of it all I had 62 over 400😂😂😂😂😂🙆🏾♂. And that was because my English was realeased and other subjects witheld. May be I would have had a 200+ who knows?
That was a funny event that you don't want to know the end, but it pained me later in life that at the mention of FORGANIZA then, I thought I was going to be a failure. Kai this is a serious matter..
Majority of our parent saw the joy in is going to school without even knowing the outcome and endpoint and that is why majority would break laws to bribe for exams and admission.
Just follow me...
Do you know that many years back merely seeing a girl learning tailoring or hairdressing and a boy in a barbers shop meant that they are less privilege and they could not afford a formal education and as such most people regard them as failures.
But in our present generation do u know that most people are graduating only to be taught these jobs by boys and girls who were regarded as less priviledge while we were on our way to school.
Then I begin to wonder, What is education and what is it's value?
It dawned on me that going to school is totally different from getting education.
See, in simple term I believe *education is the ability of a person to be available for a particular knowledge in other to make it useful for his immediate environment*
That little girl learnt how to make cloth and she sowed cloth for all her street members and some one who went to the university and has not gotten a job is abusing her that she is an illetrate, pls out of the two who is an illetrate?
"I wished it was now my mum thereatened me to take me to Saheed, infact, infact, I will just update my watsapp status immediately and you will see "Adeola Forgapower in the making"🤣🤣🤣
Pls don't misconcept me.. I am a happy graduate and am happy with my result as well. But I have grown to see those ones who could not afford schooling get value so as to become an asset in their environment and appreciate them.
Have you notice that people are now bodly learning trades and becoming apprentice in one shop or the other whereas it was not so from the beginning.
This act of responsibility is what I call EDUCATION
Now we have lots of CEOS' AND DIRECTORS of their various businesses and someone is telling me Nigeria is not getting better,..
I see a time in this country when men would no longer need CV and companies will be struggling to hire them for huge sum of money.
I feel happy waking up everyday to see that people are now getting the reality of what education is.
That formal schooling is not to put food on your table, it is to make you tougher, stronger, smarter, accurate, and intelligent so that when you do your business there will be a difference.
Education is not putting theory on your head this Semester and forgetting it the next, it is learning value and making yourself valuable.
If you don't have a job, don't waste your value, get up learn something, earn something and feel responsible to something.
I might not know many professors and doctors, but I know
Omotayo tolulope, chisom, adekoya mercy, Omole Bolanle, Babatola monisola, Kemi SLC and others who are great fashion designers, I know Amarachi Egwatunba, Bolarinwa Ayisat, Godswill obaga, chizurum nwakwoke and others who are powerful caterers, I know Tomi nccf, Christiana babatope and many more who are great hair designers and I know leakan who is a mechanic, I know one Adeola who is a tiler, aluminium fabricator, music minister, recharge card seller, and many more and I know these people defiled all odds and to add value to themselves....
Shout out to everyone in this categories and others, and those business men and women. Let's be proud of craft and see it as education....
Remember,
This is the handwriting of Adeola Oniyitan
